Wages not paid and tools not released by employer

I am self employed but worked for a single employer. Through various problems I decided to leave but unfortunately did not pick up my cheque or my tools at the time. I have asked for my wages and tools back but he is holding on to them and refusing to speak to me or answer my calls. He has every single tool I own and obviously I need my week's wages as I have a family to support. Can you advise me what to do next? This all happened 3 days ago and I need to sort this out

Send a letter recorded delivery to the address which demands the release of your property and settlement of the outstanding account. Give him 14 days to do so or state you will instruct solicitors to issue proceedings against him in the County Court without further notice.

You should quantify the amount outstanding in the letter and also the replacement value of the tools.
If he does not respond in the required time, please come back to us.
