Suspended from work but no reason given yet: should I have been told why?

I have just been suspended from work on full pay and told that the company would contact me in a few days to organise a disciplinary hearing. Should I have been given a letter to outline why I was being suspended.

Yes your company are required to provide you full details of the alleged transgression at the time of your suspension and then to organise a disciplinary hearing in a timely manner. You should attend the disciplinary hearing either with a Trade Union representative or a co-worker and you are permitted to introduce written statements to support your defence.
