Left work but my employer has paid me an extra month's wages by mistake: do I have to pay it back?

I left my previous employer two months ago. As far as I am aware I got paid a month in arrears, but, I have just been paid for another full month's work. Do I have any legal entitlement to this money due to error on their behalf? Or should I just pay it back?

Check your pay records to be certain, but if it has been overpaid in error they have a right to claim it back. They are likely to spot the problem fairly quickly so you would be better to repay it before there is a temptation to spend it.
