If I opt out of the NHS pension scheme after two years, is it true I cannot reclaim my contributions?

I wish to opt out of an NHS pension plan that has been running for 2yrs 3mths. I have been told that the cut off point is 2 years, after that I cannot reclaim my contributions. Is this correct?

Yes it will stay as what is called a "preserved benefit" and increased in accordance with inflation year-on-year and be payable at 60.
