I was employed to work 60 hour weeks including two 24 hour shifts when I would only get a few hours sleep. Can I claim compensation for my lack of rest?

For 11 months last year I was employed to work 60 hour weeks as an assistant manager in a hotel. This included two 24 hour shifts with sleep-ins, being on call. Sometimes I would only get a few hours sleep depending on circumstances. Is this right and am I entitled to compensation for my lack of rest periods?

Not necessarily but your employers are in massive breach of the Working Time Directive which states you should work no more than an average of 48 hours a week. You should pursue a Grievance over excessive hours as what your employers are doing is illegal.
