I am pregnant and off sick at the moment. Can I be made redundant?

I am 24 weeks pregnant but I have been off work for 8 weeks due to my health. I have been told my company has been making people redundant. Can they make me redundant even though I am pregnant and off sick? Can they tell me over the phone or in writing?

Potentially your employer can dismiss you if your job is redundant, even if you are pregnant.

However, they have to consult with you over the reasons for the redundancy and over ways to try and avoid the redundancy - these meetings should be face to face.

If this does not happen, or looks as though it will not happen, please come back to us for further advice.
