Can an employer reduce my salary because my job duties have been reduced?

For the last 5 months I have received a rise amounting to £5000 a year for running two satellite sites for our corporate headquarters. Yesterday they told me they were going to take away one of these sites and cut my pay back to its previous level for nothing more then financial reasons. There was nothing I did wrong performance wise to make them reach this decision. Can a company just take away my pay like this?

No - Your employer cannot simply reduce your salary. They can go through a process of effectively terminating your contract and offering new terms on reduced salary but this is in limited circumstances. If no formal process has been adopted you would be entitled to resign and claim compensation.

You need to consult a lawyer and we will arrange a free consultation if you wish.
